Prozac

"PROZAC is a medicine approved by the FDA for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa and Panic Disorder in adults.

In clinical studies, antidepressants increased the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults with depression and other psychiatric disorders. Anyone considering the use of PROZAC or any other antidepressant in a child, adolescent, or young adult must balance this risk with the clinical need." - Prozac.com

Kramer, Peter D. Listening to Prozac. New York: Penguin Group, 1993. As a practicing psychiatrist, Peter Kramer both endorses Prozac yet questions the use of drugs to alter ones mood and/or personality. This book deals with this conflict and raises philosophical and ethical questions regarding Prozac and antidepressants in general.

After years of refusing to go on any sort of medication, I recently accepted a prescription for Prozac. This relates to my work in that I have been dealing in part with psychological deterioration and also in that I imagine how the drug affects me, as well as my feelings towards being on any medication in general, will come through in my work.
